Sousei is a three part lighting series, which was commissioned by the Museum of Domestic Architecture. As a response to the museum's 2009-10 exhibition, JAPANtastic, these designs are inspired by the Japanese 'Katigami' along with their beautiful floral prints.
Each of the three parts are made of paper, which is mounted to an acrylic frame. The floral pattern, made up of hundreds of hand punctured holes, crawls across the surface to release tiny bursts of light. Variation between the three parts reveals different stages of growth, which gives this series its name 'sousei' meaning dense and healthy growth.
